I decided to write my common app essay on the third prompt (about challenging a belief or idea); because I felt it would be the best way to write about my activism. The reasons why I want to write about this particular event over a few others was because it involved changes I made at my school and the fact it in no way makes me out to be a “trouble maker”. But is this too cliché of a topic - especially considering the event I’m writing about would be listed under my extracurriculars?
No topic is off limits, but tackling certain topics lowers the probability your essay will make an impression that helps your chances.
So to answer the narrow question: It depends on the changes you helped enact. Did you get your school to start recycling, or did you bring on long-term, substantive change? I’d be happy to provide feedback, but need more specific information.
@xxteafanexx I’m editing it a little bit so I’ll PM it to you when I’m done. If you have an essay ready to read in the meantime I would love to read it
