When people say something like, “The curve is -6” what does it mean? 6 questions wrong? 6 points off (with each wrong answer being 1/4)?

-6 means that if you get 6 wrong, then you get an 800.

Question… why are we allowed to discuss the SAT IIs in depth but not AP?

It says on the official CB website that “Sharing of test questions or answers is prohibited at any time. Never give questions or answers to anyone or discuss them by any means (e.g., email, text message, exchanges via the Internet, or any other form of communication). There is never any point in time at which you are allowed to discuss exam content unless it is released as part of a College Board service (such as the Question-and-Answer Service).”

??

I think you’re out of luck :(. I called the collegeboard at (866) 756-7346 and they were luck, “Well, good luck!”

I have a question:

Could I take the SAT Math II subject test next year even though I’d have only completed trigonometry by then? (I’m taking trig my junior year and not calculus. Sucks, I know.)

I know there’s some precalc on the test, but I don’t know any yet. Could I just self study for math II even though I didn’t learn precalculus? Barrons is very hard; is there another prep book that teaches the very basics of math II first?

I didn’t take Math II, but I’d check sparknotes if I were you. They organize topics in sections in a way that I found helpful for other subjects.

Yeah you only need to know basic pre-calc. Most of it’s algebra.

Oh, thanks. I want to study for math II for next year but wasn’t sure whether zero knowledge of precalc would hinder my understanding of the material.

Errr it probably won’t, but you’ll want to know basic trig identities and radians pretty well, as well as (sinx)^2, stuff like that.

how important are SAT Subject tests in 2012? In accordance to the UCs/public/privates? Thanks :)

They’re not required, but they’re definitely an asset to your app. However, don’t fret too much about them (and don’t retake if you got above a 750+) because other parts of your app, like your essay and extracurriculars, are more important.

wow,bumppppiiiinnng

I’m thinking of applying for ED to WashU in St. Louis, but they do not require any standardized tests at all (you can send them in as support to your application, though). Will it be a big issue if I have not taken subject tests (I have already taken SAT I, got 2160)?

If I’m applying RD (January 1), can I take a December test and have it scored in time? You know, reasonably in-time so that it can be sent a little later as a sort of supplement?

Your regular decision deadline is January 1st, right? Yeah, December scores will get back to you late December, so you might be a bit crammed for time, but you should be able to make it.

If I registered to take Chinese with Listening, can I switch it to a “normal” subject, like Math or Physics??

Yeah, just bubble in “math” or “physics” the day of the test. CB only records that you signed up to take a test on a certain day; it doesn’t really matter WHAT test you take.

10char 10char

This may be a stupid question, but with just over one week till the score report, I’m going a bit paranoid. What’s included in the online score report?

i.e., besides the 200-800 scaled score, is there any other given information (percentile, raw score…anything?)

A question: Should I send my top few scores (i.e. more than two) if I think they’ll represent me better than just my top two BUT the college only requires two?
