Communal Showers

I am scheduled to participate in the WSU orientation. I will be spending two nights and one morning in a residence hall (I believe, Stevenson).

I am concerned, however, about the communal showers. Are they co-ed? Are there dividers that prevent one from being peered upon by others?

Ahmad-NO one want to see your business. Relax.

Ahmad- I don’t know where you are from but in America there are no communal coed showers in public institutions.

I have taken a tour of the dorms…there are separate bathrooms for males and females, within each bathroom there are shower stalls for privacy.

I see. I am sorry if the question seems peculiar to you. I have been told that the communal showers at Seattle University are, in fact, co-ed. I was further told about how it was not unheard of for a young man to be “towel snapped” whilst in the nude.

Please forgive me for my unfamiliarity with locker rooms, but what is the standard procedure for removing and subsequently reapplying one’s outer garments? I am unsure whether or not the stalls of which you speak have doors, in a comparable fashion to the stall doors in bathrooms. If not, does one completely remove one’s clothing, whilst outside the stall - in plain view of the peering eyes of one’s fellow students - and then proceed into the stall; before exiting the stall and putting one’s clothes back on? If there are, indeed, doors on the stall, I assume that one can undress and then redress whilst securely within the borders of the stall. This, however, raises another question: Would one’s clothes not become saturated with the shower’s pummeling waterfall?

Perhaps I am worrying too much. I just fear that I shall panic once the moment at which I am required to shower presents itself.

And by the way, I was born in Afghanistan, but am a naturalized U.S. citizen and have been living here since age eleven. In Afghanistan, obviously there are no communal co-ed showers. The culture is very different.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to come across as being mean…I was just surprised by the question. I have lived in Washington my entire life and have never heard of coed communal showers at colleges, high schools, etc. If Seattle University has coed communal showers this is news to me. It is possible somebody told you that as a joke.

In all the schools I have ever been in, there were either separate locker rooms for men and women or the showers were individual and enclosed so you have privacy to undress, shower and redress without anyone else seeing you.

I didn’t tour every dorm but the ones I saw had individual showers enclosed with walls and door so you could undress and shower in privacy.

I am a modest person so I understand your concern, but don’t stress over this anymore - you will be fine.
