Actually s4ivi, I didn't notice your question. I was responding to the initial question that started this thread.

But, if you want my answer to your question, I'm not familiar with USC's communications department, but in terms of costs and Berkeley's level of prestige (also in accordance with cost), I would say Berkeley would probably be the better choice. GO GOLDEN BEARS!!!

I would go for Cal for the reasons Camille stated -- costs and Berkeley's prestige. Heck, it's not even close for me. But I think someone who is more well informed of the communications program at both school would be better suited to answer your question.

Coming from a Cal student,UCB’s program is weighted, different and largely more difficult that the other Social Science/Liberal Arts offered at Cal.

Cal’s program was changed from Mass Communication to Media Studies. When compared to UCLA’s program which is more hands-on and industry related, Cal’s program deals more with the history, development, thematic, social-economic implications of media/society/culture. In short UCLA’s program stresses application to industry whereas Cal’s program stresses theory and the intellect behind analysis of media/society/culture.

As of now I will be going to UCSD for comm but not too excited about it. I haven’t heard great things about it, but I am still waiting on UCLA and UCB, although I don’t have high hopes of getting in. My gpa is 3.79 and i have all UCLA prereqs and most of UCB, but my gpa is pretty low compared to their avg admits.
