Recently (all thirty seconds ago), I found out that being a communication major was different from a communications major. I was surprised, but it made sense when I read the explanations. Communication is literally the study of how people communicate, how things are interpreted, and so forth, whereas communications is the different forms of communication like TV, print, etc.

I originally wanted to take a few classes in communication, thinking it would be like the latter description, but my college only offers a degree in Communication.

I understand the value of communication skills; however, I'm not sure where the degree gets you? For example, people in Communications probably aim to work with major news networks or newspapers--what is the end goal, career-wise, with a Communication degree? Which major has better job prospects? Do employers even recognize the difference?

Also, it'd be nice if people added on what they have done so far with their degree, whether in Communication or Communications, if they have one.
