Does anyone know of the quality of the communication department at Wake Forest? Do they have any specific program for public relations? Thanks!

Well, strictly speaking, no. Wake doesn’t have a PR major, minor, or concentration.

However, with help from an advisor, students can certainly choose courses that fit well within the PR field. This may mean adding a Journalism or Advertising minor to a Communications major. But, that’s OK. It would actually be a pretty powerful combination.

My son is a Comm major (Media Studies concentration) at Wake. And, I’ve been a PR professional for 25 years. So, feel free to ask more specific questions, if you have any.

Here’s the department web page: [| Department of Communication | Wake Forest University](Department of Communication - Department of Communication)

Oh, I should add, I have no complaints about the Comm program at Wake. My only suggestion would be adding a Journalism course requirement. Currently it’s an elective.

Thank you so much! I know that UNC is probably the best school in NC for Communications/Journalism, but do you (or anyone else) know the quality of Wake Forest’s program vs the program at say Elon?

Hi!

I believe that Wake does have a strong communications program, although I do not know much about it. Many people who plan on going into the business/PR environment pair a business major with a communications minor or a communications major with a, for example, entrepreneurship or journalism minor.

As DougBetsy said, there is no specific PR concentration to my knowledge.
