Communications major- am I stuck with it?

I was admitted into UCSD for the communications major and was wondering if it’s possible to switch majors and if it is how flexible it is.

You can change your major to any non-impacted major with no problems (it’s all done easily online). If you want to change to an impacted major (I believe all engineering majors are impacted, but you should check that), then you have to apply and it is a competitive process.

I’m actually on the same boat! I got admitted for Comm too and was thinking about switching to either Psych or Business. We would obviously need to take the prereqs for those @ UCSD if we switched right? So we’d need to stay there much longer…

@anxious2transfer I have a friend who switched majors five times and is graduating early. Switching majors is pretty hassle free unless you’re an engineer.

@anxious2transfer Are you an incoming freshman or a transfer student? If you’re an incoming freshman, then it doesn’t matter at all because any student can start at the beginning of their major and still graduate in four years. If you are a transfer student, then you would still have to take the prerequisites for psychology, but there really aren’t that many. And many of them you may have already taken (things like calculus, statistics, or bio/chem/physics). Switching majors doesn’t automatically mean you need to stay longer. You just have to look at the course requirements and figure out how to graduate on time.

Also, unless it’s changed, there’s no business major at UCSD.

UCSD only has a business minor and graduate business program, no undergrad business major.

You can do Econ instead and take a few accounting classes.
