Communications to Occupational therapist?

Hi, I know this might sound stupid but I am going to college soon and am heavily deciding on what I want to do with my life. I am very interested studying communications and public relations, however, I also have an interest in being an Occupational Therapist. I know these two fields are very different from each other. However, I did my research and read that in order to get into Occupational Therapy school, you need a bachelors degree and you need to take the prerequisite courses.

I'm worried that I'm going to major in something besides Communications, then not get into an OT program, then be totally unhappy because nothing worked out for me. So I figure, why just major in what I'm interested in, then see if I can actually get into the OT school?

I'm not 100% sure how college works, but when you take a major, aren't you able to take elective courses? My question is, if I major in communications, could I take prerequisite courses (such as sociology, bio, anatomy, ect.) as electives during my communications major, so I can apply to an OT program if I decide communications isn't quite working out? From what I researched, I saw you can really have any bachelors degree and you just need prerequisite courses.

Any advice, insight and answers will be very appreciated. Thank you!

Additionally, I already have CPR certification and I'm on a volunteer rescue squad and planning on going to EMT school the summer before college. Would that up my chances of getting accepted into OT school?
