If you think they might want to Box during the Summer,,,send a mouthguard or 2 promptly with the first package.

Mouthguards are provided by the Dental Clinic. They take dental impressions and then make custom mouthguards from those impressions. The Navy provides everything the midshipmen need.

Speaking of boxing, can someone explain/expand upon the fascination with it? Do they give nose guards for sorely outsized beeks? :(

^^^^LOL Mine doesn't have a "sorely outsized beek" yet got his bell rung pretty well and thought he broke the nose. Apparently blood everywhere and couldn't breath through it for a few days!

Oh goody. :( Boy had his softened up during soccer season. Should break quite easily, now.

sorry to get back to this so late...

in answer to the questions as to "who the angels were".... they are 2 ladies stationed on the yard...one works for the academy as well I believe...but both with Naval husbands stationed at annapolis... one of them is also the mother of a plebe.... not sure about the other angel...

anyway, they walk thier dogs, they go about their work, they go about their activites of daily living....only they take a camera everywhere they go and they take a picture of just about every mid they see....and then they spend countless hours posting them all on dropshots for the rest of us anxious parents to sift through....an endless but happy search for our "waldo's".... and I can't even explain how happy one gets when you actually find a pic that includes your plebe!!!

So not a contradiction to the "rules" at all....

with any luck, they will be around next summer to do the same....not sure if it has been done before (think last summer was the first)....or if they will do it again (perhaps not...for one mom, her son will be moving up to youngster year).... but if they do, trust that those pics will provide you with a unique sense of connection to your plebe during the summer that, to this mom and countless others, was and remains absolutely priceless!

Now that's about the nicest, coolest thing I've heard of in a long while.

"Hey Admiral, who are those 2 dames over there in the gazeebo?"

"I'm not sure Commandant, but I think they're enemy spies. Someone said they went to West Point. Call out the Blue Angles!"

Make that "Angels". They are, and hoping they don't get their wings 'fore mine gets his youngster yuniform. "Girls, mine's the really good looking one with the short haircut and oversized 'beek'. Can you get his good side, please?"

My son never mentioned anything about being provided a custom mouthguard. He just asked that we send it asap, which we did. He really enjoyed the smoker during the summer. It was one of his high points even with the cuts and bruises.

One of these "angels" is probably Sharon Hanley Disher (USNA '80).

Don't think so the two are Jan and Barb. Jan has a Plebe and Barb not sure.
