<p>Can someone explain to me how showering in the community bathrooms kind of goes down? For example, for freshman is everyone pretty embarrassed and wearing swim trunks or what? Are towels and crap getting stolen all the time? Any input is welcome.</p>
<p>i’m not in college, but i’ve done overnights in college dorms before. the showers aren’t open… they have curtains. so i don’t see why anyone would wear swim trunks. </p>
<p>people just go in the bathroom with a towel and their personal effects, drape the towel over the curtain and take a shower, and when they’re done dry themselves and walk back to their rooms.</p>
<p>Where I went over the summer it was set up like this: a room with four showers and one bath. Each shower and bath was in its own little stall and had a small room to dress/undress in and it had a little bench to keep your towel and/or clothes on. There were curtains to keep it private but you could talk to everyone else (and apparently if you were loud enough the people in the shower room below and above you could hear you, haha)
Toilets were their own seperate room and people kept their shower bags in the shower room all the time. I never heard of anything being stolen though.</p>

<p>At our bathroom there was a shower with a curtain. No changing area, which was annoying, but many do have a changing area. There was a hook outside of the shower to hang your towel. I undressed in my room, and walked around in my towel. Not many used bathrobes.</p>
<p>We have a shower and curtain and changing area…uh, it’s not that embarassing? You walk into the bathroom in your towel, you take your shower, and you leave in your towel.</p>
<p>Fresh year we had a communal bathroom for the hall with a couple of showers.</p>
<p>Bathing trunks? Nah. Assuming you’re in relatively good shape most guys would just walk from their rooms wearing nothing but a towel (a bonus for ladies living in co-ed floors) while carrying their shower supplies. That was the norm.</p>
<p>As for the showers themselves…there was a partition between the main area and a small area you could drape a towel as well as other supplies.</p>
<p>Mind you make sure the stall you’re using is clean before you start. You WILL find every kind of fluid in some of them at some point during the year.</p>
<p>Most people would just go down to the bathrooms in their boxers witha shower over their shoulder. Then they’d just find a stall go in. Close the curtain. Take off boxers, slightly open up the curtain and put boxers on hook. Close curtain and take a shower.</p>
<p>I always wore a wetsuit when I showered. That’s the best course of action if you’re shy.</p>
<p>Bathing suits? It’s not like prison showers. 
We all have individual stalls and curtains, or even doors (like on bathroom stalls). We do have cubbies in our bathrooms where we leave our stuff, and I won’t lie and say things don’t periodically get borrowed or totally lifted, but it’s rare and you can always keep things in your room if you’re worried. I just put my stuff in a green shower basket with slats and carry it back and forth.</p>
<p>We DO have timed showers on some floors that have issues with people taking a lifetime, so you need to learn how to linger in there (especially while you’re shaving), but generally, no one really cares enough about shower issues to think much about them.</p>
<p>Do wear flip-flops, though! As others have said, the floors can be pretty gross.</p>
<p>I imagine that, as the year goes by and your floormates get more comfortable, you have to look out for pranksters and keep your towel/clothes close to you when you go it. Aforementioned descriptions coincide with my experiences, though I’ve never seen people leave their caddies around after their shower. Guess it depends on where there’s room.</p>
<p>I’ve accidentally gotten locked out of my room after coming back from the shower, when my roommate came back and locked the door (and didn’t know I was showering and assumed I had the key). It was during a little conflict between my roommate and another floormate, so it was just a single incident.</p>
<p>But you’re floormates. You’ll get used to each other. Some people in my dorm walked around their floor in their boxers and nothing else. You see much more scandalous things, like visiting your floormate (without knocking, because after a while no one knocks), only to find him naked with another girl … or two girls.</p>
<p>everybody just takes their towels and boxers into the stalls so they can just change in their with the curtains.</p>
<p>i once showered before one of our football games, so ALL of us (freshman) were getting ready to go the game, but i freaking locked myself out of my room, so all I had was a toothbrush, shampoo bottle, and an old pair of boxers from 8th grade (mind you, they weren’t holding together too well). I didn’t take a towel because it was going to literally by a 5 minute shower, and my door was right across from the bathroom door. i had to walk down to the front desk in that crap, and nobody was there. walking in front of all those people was like a walk of shame.

<p>To I Hope UT and anybody else who is nervous about the showers, there will be a place where you will have your privacy, i assure you. nobody will see you naked if you don’t want to,
and damn foshizzlenizzle, and i thought my comment about the herp was bad…</p>

<p>We had stalls with the little shower curtains that weren’t actually wide enough to cover the stall, so they’d either throw an extra towel over the curtain or everyone who walked by got a view. Then there was a small private changing area, also curtained, also too small, with a pull down bench that you could store your belongings. </p>
<p>I always wore flip flops in the shower because I was paranoid that everyone was peeing in it. But I’m weird, so…</p>
<p>Any other sanitary precautions beyond the flip flops? I’m kind of freaked out about how clean the bathrooms/showers will be.</p>
<p>There is only one dorm on my campus (that I know of) that has locker room style showers where everyone showers together. But this is a dorm that you request to be in so you should know what you’re getting into. Wear flip flops because the floors are disgusting.</p>
<p>Housekeeping cleans the floors every week (or every weekday) … the issue is when people throw up on the floors or make the urinal overflow while they’re drunk from some party on a weekend. Housekeeping doesn’t work on weekends.</p>
