Is taking a class at a community college seen as basically the same thing as taking an AP class outside of school? Or is it better/worse? Do they help much in the application?

Usually classes taken at a community college are weighted as an extra .5, much like an honors class.

Are we talking about your highschool, klf? Or is this admissions at colleges?

My school counts them as on AP or better than AP level (higher science and math courses).

My high school weights them an extra .5, so an A would be a 4.5, where as an A in an AP would be a 5.0. Many colleges also award extra points this way. To the OP, you should check with the colleges your interested in and see how they award the extra points.
