Community College Credits

Hello I am CC student who has recently realize that they want to become a doctor.

Anyway my question is, would it be better to wait a full year and take organic chem II and biology I/II at a 4 year institution or take it now at my CC?

Another option would be to take it twice at both my CC and the 4 year institution I transfer too.

I ask this because after doing some research I realize some medical schools might not accept CC credits for prerequisites.

Thank you for reading

Whatever you do–don’t take then at a your CC and then re-take them at a 4 year college. That’s pointless and a waste of time & money.

There are only a handful of medical schools that don’t accept CC credits. (Creighton, EVMS come to mind). Even JHU will now accept CC credits so long as you have taken additional upper level sciences coursework beyond what you took at the CC.

Whether you should choose to to take your intro level classes at your CC is going to depend on your intended major and what the transfer policies are between your CC and your state universities.

What’s your intended major?

I am an engineering major

Do you have any classes outside of the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, and math you could take? E.g. history? english? foreign language? That would be ideal as it would be best to save as many of the pre-reqs as possible for the 4 year school (not so much because the credits won’t count, at most schools they will, but because it will make you look more competitive).

Under NO circumstance should you take them twice.

@iwannabe_Brown

I have two gen eds I have to take before I can graduate with AA in engineering.

But I have room for other classes like organic chem II and biology I/II.

Also organic chem I is only offer in the fall at my CC. Which I will be taking in Fall 2016.

For my two gen eds that I need, I was going to take winter classes.
