Community College Engineers

So fellow community college engineering majors where are you guys planning to transfer too?
How is everything going academically?
Past transfers any tips?

My child is transferring to Texas A & M Univeristy-College Station

I am applying this coming Fall to UCLA, USC, UCSB, UCB, UCI, UCSD, and Cal States SLO and PP as a chemical engineering major. So far I have about a 3.5 overall, 3.2 in my major prerequisites, but I’m hoping to get my GPA up this semester since I won’t be working, I’ll be able to dedicate myself 100% to school. If I get on track I can have a 3.7 or 3.8 overall by the time I transfer. I’m trying to find internships or research opportunities for the summer.

I just transferred to UCI last year from a California community college as an electrical engineering major, and I love it here! While I had a great experience at my CC, being at a university has opened up so many other opportunities for me. The conventional wisdom is that transfer students experience a drop in their GPA during their first term at their new schools, but the opposite happened in my case. I had roughly a 3.7 GPA after 2 years at community college, yet my GPA for my first quarter at UCI was 3.8. My advice to all other engineering majors is to establish good study habits prior to transferring, as mine were directly responsible for my academic success (I always made sure I studied every day, even though the duration of my studying varied depending on my other activities and commitments).

@ericeo good luck with your studies

@ARandomPerson1 thank you for the advice and good job with getting into UCI
