I'm currently at a California community college and am curious to find out what the average gpa for transfer students is (or engineering transfer students) to UCSD. I want to major in structural engineering there, but I blew my Calc 2 final which dropped my grade from an A- to a C. I made an A in Calc 1 but I think that C in Calc 2 might screw things up for me. I had a 3.73 but with the B in first semester physics I believe my gpa will be around 3.53ish now. I know UCSD is very competitive so I'm trying to figure out how much this will affect my chances of transfering in fall 2010. I'm also considering Cal poly pomona and UCI

Hi, one of my friends who got admitted in the major that you are intending to go.
His GPA is 3.5 but he is a resident in here. So, I dont know are they all same for GPA

I’m a california resident. Does it make a difference if youre a resident in San Diego? I live in Huntington Beach

i dont think it makes a difference as long as u have signed a TAG agreement

I got a C in Calc1 and got into UCSD as an ME. I eventually got better grades, my gpa was ~3.4 when I applied.

themediocre: that makes me feel a little bit better. I just made a C in physics too but i’m going to petition it because I would have had to made a 50 on the final to get a C in that class so hopefully the professor just made a mistake. If i did get a C that means my gpa will be like a 3.48 or so

Hey I’m a student at a california community college that is transferring to ucsd for structural engineering next fall. My gpa at the time I applied was about a 3.65 and I had gotten a C+ in my electricity and magnetism class. I think you will be fine.

Its funny because I emailed my professor earlier and he told me i was just below the B cutoff and hes going to bump me up to a B. my gpa when i apply to ucsd will be a 3.58 now instead of a 3.48

Yeah, keep your gpa around 3.5+ and you’ll be okay. Now that I think about it, I also got a C in chem1 as well… :o

Yea I talked to a counselor at ucsd about transferring into engineering. Im going into aerospace. But she said if you complete all of the required courses and have an overall gpa of 3.4 or higher, you are pretty much in. They make it quite a bit easier to get in for transfer students there.

@norris212: is it the same with ucsd students who wants to change major to engineering?
