Community college? Film school? Huh?
Well, it makes sense when the school is Colorado Film School, recognized as one of the top 25 film schools by Hollywood Reporter. This place immerses the student immediately into filmmaking, perfect for the hands-on, let-me-make-films student. It is NOT a traditional college experience - you’ll have to find your own housing, for example - but it is, I think, a great learning experience at low cost. They have Colorado in-state tuition, out-of-state tuition, and WUE tuition. But FOUR YEARS here will be less than ONE YEAR of a traditional film school. Check out some details/approaches here (but costs noted were 2012 costs): http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/visual-arts-film-majors/1387624-colorado-film-school.html
Oops… I just reread this and it sounds like I am a paid endorser. I am not. I’m a long time (since 2003) CC’er and I just want to show that there are alternatives to high-cost, four year film schools. I think this is a great program, BUT not for everyone. Like I said, it’s not a typical college environment, but for an independent, self-starter, this might be a good option without breaking the bank.
