Community college in California

Gabe..me and you argued this program on another thread... you were trying to call TAP a guarenteed transfer program.

Guys you need to be aware that it very much depends on your major. I remember some horror stories (not trying to scare any of you) from last year of people having 3.8+ GPA's and TAP done and getting turned down from either Cal or UCLA. While that was somewhat rare, there were a few people on here who had that happen. Also as far as I know, much more important than TAP is having your lower division classes done.

Right--there are certain reasons those 3.8 people don't get in. Usually they are simple, like not having prereqs done for an impacted major.

In other words, there isn't some "ghost" factor. I think if we had the chance to look at a person's entire file, we would see it.

At my school, you have to have a 3.25 to be TAP certified. Just add some leadership with community service, and an honest application, you'll have a GREAT chance of getting in.

Its 3.2 to be UCLA TAP certified at our school (COC) Allena...

I totally thought students with 3.2 gpas yet with TAP certification had a good shot at UCLA. To be honest, its quite reassuring that they do not as I believe it is unfair that someone with a low gpa, few extracuriculars and passions can get into such a great school solely on the basis of a TAP certification...

Hope TAP works for me though =]

Yeah--TAP is considered as the last point in the first tier of the things they look at (academic considerations). Extra-curriculars etc. are in the second tier.

Thank you for giving me all the advices. How about Diablo Valley, and Tacoma in Washington state?

Tacoma in Washington? That won't get you into a UC.

I just want to know whether Tacoma is a good cc or not. Why you guys always mention about UCLA but not Berkeley? Is it very difficult to get into Berkeley even you have got a very high GPA or some other reasons?

They were mentioning UCLA because UCLA has an actual program for preferred admission: TAP. TAP is only offered at particular California community colleges. Berkeley doesn't have such a program.

Pls give me some information about how to transfer to Berkeley.

Go to Berkeley's website.

<a href="http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/transfer.asp%5B/url%5D">http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/transfer.asp</a></p>

<a href="http://students.berkeley.edu/files/Admissions/Transfer_06.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://students.berkeley.edu/files/Admissions/Transfer_06.pdf</a></p>

Diablo Valley College is a good community college, and is chosen by a lot of students who want to transfer to Berkeley. Although Berkeley no longer sponsors guarantee transfer programs, you should be able to find some statistics on which cc's transfer the most students. I'm sure DVC would be one of the top.

Although sac, as has been pointed out many times, those statistics really mean nothing. If anything students gain an advantage by attending schools with few admits, as geographic diversity is a factor in admissions.

You can succeed at any community college and get into Berkeley; that's how the system works. Students from DVC or any other school are not given priority.
