I’m currently an English major, which is great. I attend Foothill College and my transfer date is Fall 2019. I actually had an apt with my counselor to choose my courses today. We chose some great classes but I’ve been considering a change of major. Global Studies for Transfer seems very interesting. I’ve always been interested in learning about different countries and their languages. Unfortunately Foothill doesn’t offer a French degree so I think Global Studies could feel the gap. Would it be a big deal to change majors? I’m mostly working on general education classes right now.
Also I may be moving to Los Angeles, so transferring to a cc there is an option. I do want to stay at Foothill but I love Los Angeles. Would it be a bad thing to change community colleges?
Many students change majors. Changing while you’re still paying lower community college tuition is great – it’s less expensive to spend an extra semester at CC than at a four-year.
As far as changing CC goes – it’s not too bad since you’re staying in the same state system. The classes should line up reasonably well. That being said, not all CCs are exactly the same. If you have a choice between campuses, visit and compare.
Thank you, I won’t need to make the change until the fall. The only courses I’m taking during the summer will be for general ed requirements. But I’m looking into Los Angeles City College and Santa Monica College
Over the summer it will be possible to compare and make the right decision
Yeah, there is no French AA-T, only Spanish. (Although Spanish can feed into some majors that could then include French, like Comparative World Literatures, and Linguistics.)
Neither LA nor Santa Monica has the Global Studies AA-T, so if you specifically want that you’re better off continuing at Foothill.
You’re familiar with this site for viewing all the options, right? http://www.adegreewithaguarantee.com/en-us/abouttheprogram/findyourpath.aspx
The thing about the ccs in CA is that a lot of them are “impacted”, and if you aren’t registering for fall classes now, you may not get the classes you need. So if you want to go to Foothill, go to Foothill. If you think you may want to transfer to another cc for the fall, you may want to apply to that cc now, so you have your financial aid and admission all set up far enough in advance to be able to get into your classes.
