Hello I'm going to community college right now and my CGPA is 3.5 and my transferable GPA is 4.0. By the end of this semester it will stay the same or it could drop slightly to a 3.33 or transferable will go down to 3.75 at best. The reason is is my CC has a messed up grading system. 90% and above 4.0.. 79.9% to 89.9% is a 3.0 there is not 3.5 or 3.75. Im basically getting an 88% in economics and recieveing a 3.0 on my GPA same as if i had a 80%. I think its a bit unfair but o well. I want to transfer to a Uni and major in finance and possibly double in accounting. Thus far, my list consists of 13 schools

Miami U Oxford
William and Mary
PITT
James Madison
DePaul
University of Washington
Michigan State
Syracuse
Georgia Tech
Uni of Arizona
ASU
Rutgers
Loyola

Do you think I have any chance of getting accepted? I will only have 18 credits by the end of the semester or 12 transferable credits. 3 W's. I don't do extracurriculars. I work full time, however, I should be getting into the honors society by the end of the semester. I was also thinking of joining the business club. I live in Pennsylvania and pretty much all of the schools on my list are out-of-state.

Honestly Ive been thinking of just dropping this econ class and retaking it over the summer to get that A but that would be another W… ugh critical decision.

This is the same grading system used in most schools I know.

That’s an interesting list of schools in many states. Can you afford all of them? Some are going to be near $50K/year. You can look at the Common Data Set for each school (section D) to see what they use to evaluate transfers. Working is an EC.

I view it as an investment though. THe better the school I can get into the better the alumni and then i stand a better chance at getting a good paying career in finance. I’d cover most of the money in loans and working. I have the first 2 years at CC paid off though.

Who will co-sign your $100K in loans? You can only borrow $15K total for your Jr and Sr years. How much could you make working? $5K/year? That still leaves you $75K short.

well i would get my parents to co-sign and they have good credit. I would take out some government loans and start paying that 6 months after graduation. Then the rest in private loans. With a good GPA i’m sure i could get some scholarships/grants too. If there is a way I will find it. School is the most important investment that I can make, since it will lead to more money. Also, as far as, transferring goes would the difference in GPA of .1 matter a whole lot? Like say I transfer with a 3.8 would I have the same chance as someone with a 3.9? Would admissions care about the difference? Or a 3.75 not a 3.85. The one thing that i’m sure of is I will have >3.5 for transferring. I’m super ambitious and would be able to find a good career through networking. Thats why I want to go to a school with a good alumni base----- even if it leaves me in debt. Because debt can be paid off in time, and alumni is from you school and can’t be changed. GOod things take time.

That is wacky. Most schools have the 4.0, 3.7, 3.3, 3.0, 3.7…ect scale.

I’d question this logic. And if your as ambitious and on top of things as you say, going to an in-state top public school couldn’t hurt, unless you companies you want to work for don’t recruit in your state…

But honestly, I think with your GPA, you’ll still get considered, and it may matter what subjects your lower grades were in (economics is not a big deal I don’t think). You could even counter it by having your econ professor write your letter of recommendation? but idk.

the real question is is should i withdrawal from the course and retake it over the summer? I’m literally 10 points short of an A. THe class is only out of 660 points. Ugh its sooo frustrating.

bump… i have only 1 day to drop the class any suggestions?
