So I have been accepted to CSULA, CSUN, and UCM, Waitlisted at CSUF, and Denied at, CSULB, UCR, UCSC, UCSB. I don’t want to go to CSULA because it is too close to home, CSUN because it’s too big of a campus, and UCM is too far, expensive, and in the middle of nowhere. CSUF has been my choice school, but being on waitlist makes me question my choices.
Essentially my question is should I take up community college? I’ve been thinking a lot and I want to major somewhere within STEM, preferably aeronautical engineering. I dislike the fact that there is a stigma surrounding community college, but I would just like to know what are the pros and cons of it?
Like how many years would it take me to transfer out, Would my bachelor degree show that I went to a CC.
Thank you to whoever reads this!
100% yes go to CC. I chose a CSU over CC that I didn’t want to go to. A huge regret.
Pros: saves money, you really challenge yourself, lots of opportunities, smaller class sizes, motivated students, lots of different perspectives/life experiences, more control over your education.
Cons; need to put in effort and be self motivated. Can be lonely. Stigma.
It should take you about 2 years. But In the end, you’ll get the same degree as everyone else. No one will need to no unless you send the transcripts to grad school. But that won’t hurt you.
Go to community college, seriously. It’s a fantastic experience.
Talk to the cc where you might go. Some of them have special tracks for pre Engineering. From a quick glance it appears that whether you can complete your education in 4 years depends on what math level you start out at and very careful planning. UCD has a guaranteed transfer program if you qualify (and if and they have the program you want), maybe other UCs do too
i would think the low rent in Merced and somewhat higher tuition would make it cost competitive with high rent but low tuition at Fullerton. If money is tight, a CC is probably your best option but, I’d give Merced another look.
Good luck
I ended up going to a community college, and I definitely do not regret the decision. Its great here, very inexpensive, and the campus is nice aha. Thank you all for your input!
Always great to hear the rest of the story. Best wishes on all your pursuits.
Thank you, everyone, for your inputs, I really appreciate it!
I ended up going to a community college and I do not regret it not one bit. I really love the setting, the students, counselors, everyone here is really supportive of my goals. I have gained a lot in just one semester of college, and that astounds me.
I know I made the correct choice, and I’ll actually miss the school once I transfer out.
I would also like to keep you guys posted just as @alooknac had mentioned.
Thanks.
