community coollege, loans for apartment money?

okay so, i'm going to a community college right now. i couldn't get any grants, but i took out a government student loan and was approved $5,500 for the entire year, $2,750 for each semester. (yeah, i know, it's sad i have to even borrow money for community college, but i have NO money whatsoever). anyway, i took three classes this semester so that i could have $300 left of loan money to pay for my books. i would have had more money left over but i don't have health insurance, so $900 was used for that.

next semester i really would like to transfer either to the community college that's in the city or a university there that's about $10,000/semester, however i think the community college is probably more of an option since... i have no money. i really would like to move out, but i have no money for an apartment. i've applied to about ten places in the past month, so i have been looking for a job. i want to take five classes next semester, so the entire $2,750 will be used to pay for all my classes.

what i would like to ask is, are there any other student loan or anything i can take out for apartment rent? i try to make the best of it but i really don't wanna live here for another semester. by "here" i mean with my mother and stepfather in the town i've always lived in. it's just so boring. and i have to drive thirty minutes away to get there, i don't have my own car too so sometimes transportation can be an issue. i really wanna live in the city. i tried applying for a student loan for an extra $3000 or so with salliemae but i was denied. i didn't use a cosigner but my moms credit is not any better than mine, so that wouldn't have made a difference. and no, there really is no one else i can think of that i could use for a cosigner. :| maybe one of my brother's has good ccredit, i really don't know, buti haven't talked to him for at least a year and i don't wanna be rude and call him just to ask if i can use him as a cosigner. so that's not an option.

help!?

No, there are no other student loans other than private loans that require a cosigner.

so do you have any other suggestions? ahfidhgksjfgsdklfj. this sucks. :frowning: i really don’t wanna waste another semester here.

Although it’s not ideal, having your parent apply for a Parent Plus loan is probably your most feasible option. If she is denied you can ask the school to increase your federal loans by up to $4,000/year. I would be very cautious about assuming nearly $10K a year in debt for a 2-year degree though. You will always have living expenses and borrowing for them now will make it more difficult to pay current expenses later. Unless you’re in a program that has very good job prospects, and a decent starting salary, don’t borrow a dime more than you absolutely have to or you may end up living like a student for a long time.

If you transferred to the 4-year school for spring semester would you be eligible for any aid? You may need to finish your associate’s and take a year or two off to save money as juniors/seniors are only eligible for $7500/year in student loans.
