Unfortunately, Reed's community garden has been temporarily displaced due to some new dorms that opened this year. The college does plan to relocate it.

However, Reed does offer a unique opportunity for students who are interested in getting their hands dirty: the Reed Canyon, a wildlife corridor which bisects campus. Here's some information on how students can be involved with maintaining and working in the Canyon: http://www.reed.edu/canyon/

Reed college used to have the largest and oldest community garden in Portland, but cleared it out to create new dorms. They suggested to gardeners and the interested community that the college would find a site for a smaller garden, but have more recently "decided" that this is not feasible.
This year, students worked to get permission for a small garden on the west side of campus that will hopefully be productive in the coming years. If you want to be involved in agriculture while you're at school though, you should probably go somewhere sub-tropical, as Reed's year only overlaps with the beginning and the end of the growing season.

actually- you can grow winter veggies in Portland
Edible Portland

or someone can grow them for you

I would love to see a piece of land regained for urban agriculture though- & Portland has great soil
