Does organization for where I do my community service hours matter? I currently teach Korean on Saturdays to American born young Korean children at church. And I also peer tutor violin at a middle school… Are those organizations not strong or good enough for my hours to be recognized?
Yes, all hours that you’ve spent doing service are important and should be recorded.
I was wondering like if the organization or place I did community service hours at are rly important…
As long as you’re not claiming that you “volunteered” by helping your grandmother for a day out of a week, I think admissions counselors will generally consider volunteer hours from most organizations valuable. Since you’re obviously not trying to pass off something you’re expected to do as community service, I think you’re pretty much good.
thank you
Family contributions really do matter. A student who took care of all the shopping, cooking, laundry, yard care, pet care, checking the oil in the car etc. In addition to earning straight A’s , getting amazing SAT scores and earning some money for household expenses, starting at age twelve when his only parent got cancer is going to be admired by every admissions committee on the planet, especially when he also goes to state and nationals in academic competitions. So, a homeschooled student responsible for teaching all younger siblings to read and who grows a huge vegetable garden and cans/freezes for her large family to make homeschooling more financially feasible will also be given high marks. These types of family service show maturity, responsibility, time management, commitment to the well being of the group, and an ability to care for oneself. You see, there are kids whole play video games for hours daily and spend all their time on Twitter, only occasionally showing up for organized community service. opportunities. Would you admit them or the kids who kept their families cared for by taking on adult responsibilities?
You can include helping an elderly relative if you detail your responsibilities so it’s clear you are not just eating cookies at her house. If you clean, change the bed linens, organize the bills, count her pills, and do her yardwork every week, that is significant and should be listed. Folding a basket of laundry is not in itself significant.
