Commuter school?

I know USC explicitly states that it is a residential school, but I get the feeling that a lot of kids commute to school, from what I've heard, because they live in California. My family thinks that this is a problem because campus probably empties out on weekends and since I'm not from CA, I wouldn't have a social life. I was just wondering if I could hear from people who go there now as to whether or not this is true??? Thank you!

A lot of people who live even an hour away from USC still live in the dorms. The Greek life at USC is pretty big too, so there are always parties on the weekends. The campus definitely does not empty out on the weekends.

Yes, a lot of people do go home on the weekends. I’ve always wondered about those people. I can understand going home on the weekends fairly often during your first year but now I’m a senior and I still have friends who go home every weekend. Maybe it’s because my family is so far away but I think that it doesn’t really feel like you’re in college if you go home every single week lol.

To answer your question though, while there are a significant number of people who go home on the weekends, remember that 50% of the student body comes from out of state or out of the country so they definitely do not go home. Also, of the 50% of California residents, many of them are from central or northern California so they don’t have the opportunity to go home, either.

PS: just a general rant to those who live nearby campus: please do not be one of those kids who takes their laundry home and has their mom do it for them. You’re in college, not middle school.

^Heheheh…I do not know how to do my laundry and my mom sort of implied that as a reason to go to Davis

lol
just dont let something small like laundry influence your decisions in schools :stuck_out_tongue: this is your future!

Thanks to the power of google©, you too can now learn how to do laundry on your own!

Yeah some people but commute but hell no can you call USC a commuter school. What is this, CSU-Long Beach? LOL

Lmao, thanks guys…it’s a relief to know that I won’t be choosing my college based on laundry! =]
