Comp. Sci subject required for university CS major?

Hi, I'm a senior who just submitted all my apps in.
For most of the schools, I applied to CS major (including some ivies).
I was suddenly worried about whether I would be qualified/disadvantaged ..
because I didn't take computer science subject during my high school.
I only took Information Technology in grade 10.
I took IB physics and math HL.. Will I be ok..?

Yes. Most CS programs begin with an introductory course anyway. What you may want to do is take a course this summer (maybe an evening course) at your local community college. Hell, take it pass/fail so you are not worried about a grade…you just want some exposure before heading to school in the fall.

Then, when adcom reviews my application, would they think it’s okay for not taking cs subject at high school for now? as long as I took calculus and physics?

Ummm…

Unless the requirements changed since I was in college, you don’t even need Calculus in high school to get in as a freshman. In most schools, the typical fall-semester-freshman schedule is:

Calculus I
Science (either Physics or Chemistry)
Science Lab
English Composition
Introductory Programming

I’m not sure, but the answer to that question isn’t that useful right now to you since you’ve turned in all of your apps. My guess is: that they wouldn’t penalize you for not taking CS in high school, since having a high school CS program isn’t that common.

Don’t worry about it. I am a CS major and I came in with no CS knowledge and am now doing quite well. Just come in with a good mindset and hopefully a decent math background, and you’ll be fine.

From what I’ve heard, and seen from my first programming course, many CS majors have little programming experience from the beginning. You should be just fine.
