Companies Founded By Engineers

Believe it or not it's darn hard to find such a list with Google. If your Google kung fu is more righteous than mine, feel free to show me up. But off the top of my head I can think of HP and Compaq. What other companies were founded by engineers? I know tons of CEOs are engineers, but I'm specifically interested in learning about engineers who started their own companies, selling their own inventions (initially at least). Examples of software company startups are a dime a (hundred) dozen, I'm more interested in actual engineers who actually made hardware of some kind.

I take it the lower barrier to entry is what makes the software startups so numerous, and the high barrier of entry is why the electronics (and so forth) industry dominated by larger companies.

Anybody have any information on venture capitalists funding engineering startups? No, I'm not looking for one, I'm just trying to learn.

I have a list a few weeks ago.

Intel - Andrew Grove is a ChemE, and the other two are physicists.
Oracle (software)
AMD
Yahoo (software)
Xerox
Lenovo (obvious)
Marvell

Many of the hardware companies are in fact started by the engineers.
