Comparative Government!

I thought we should have a thread of our own.

Good luck tomorrow everyone!

Btw, what's everyone using as their optional country? I'm doing India :).

mexxxico all the way!

is the EU tested on it? (for like a FR or something maybe?)

bump........

I don't think so. Topics are on the 4 countries and one of the other two.

Anyone know anything about the curve for this exam?...Somewhere around 65% for a 5 or something like that (just guessing based on other AP's)

It's higher, like 75% or something like that.

:)

Umm..... I haven't learned anything about the optinal country yet. which one do yallrecommend and do u know of any websites that are useful? I really wnat to do iIndia ( thier culture and history sounds kewl) but I'm not sur eif I can find enouhg info to form a coherant essay

For those of you that are still awake, i'm pretty sure the EU is on the test, i've seen multiple choice q's from old tests and it was there. Just know a bit about it and you should be fine. hopefully there won't be a free response on it.

xanderman, do mexico. It's pretty simple. you've got your classic corruption in the PRI, them eventually losing and the PAN and Fox coming into power. Then you have Obrador as the Socialist leader of the PRD, who are gaining favor. Huge oil crisis in the 80's. that's basically it. i suggest you do it.

Well, I'm doing India because that's the only 5th country I was taught and don't feel like teaching myself a new country in one night lol. It's easier for me bc I did a debate over the summer about Indian politics so I was like pre-prepared for it too. Next year they're changing the countries I think. Iran is supposed to be on there. I'd do that one if I could.

Eeek! 75%? What's the % for a 4 then?

by the by, what's the difference between the National People/Party Congresses? I ALWAYS get them confused.

There's a difference? Everything in China is one big party...

Yeah but the People's Congress does one thing and the Party Congress does another. I think?

I think the People's might pick the Central Committee and the Party dictates policy. But I'm not sure.

75%? lol... uh-oh. I was going to "self-study" for this test, but I have yet to start studying - and it's the night before the test. I was hoping that there would be a more generous curve. Oh well... looks like I have a long night ahead of me. :)

egalitarianism??what the hell is it? also for all you that have time can you PLEASE list tht most important things to know for this test..like maybe for each country?

people who have taken the actual class....could you please visit ::

http://phs.prs.k12.nj.us/~ewood/

and let the rest of us know if the info on there reflects the class/textbook?

relatively accurate...

not as in-depth, of course, but still will be able to give you enough to get a low 4....

if you can bullsht and are a good test taker (as a lot of the test is common sense- some generic questions about any developing country), you can even aim for a 5
:)

heh...as long as i get a 3 to satisfy my college :D

anybody know of any other sites? (other than wikipedia)

so are we all sitting here while trying to cram for us & comp ? :)

god, those supreme court cases are ridiculously hard to memorize if you've never learned them before :(

Think of it like this:

The People's Congress is like the House of Representatives. One, big, large House of Representatives. It's called the Quanguo Renmin Daibiao Dahui.. and I know I completely butchered that Pinyin (seeing how I just read it from a book, sorry about that.) It is the official legislative body of the People of China.

It used to be a rubber-stamp legislature but in recent years has moved away from that.

The Party Congress.. think GOP/DNC. It elects Party Leadership, who essentially have control of the Chinese government, blah blah, etc.,

It's very hard to differentiate the separation of powers between political parties and the state government.

On one hand, you have the Politburo Standing Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, the CMC (Military Commission), and the Disciplinary Committee -- this is all party related, but on the other, you have the President, the People's Congress, and the State Council (Premier, Vice-Premiers, etc.,)

Typically, since party leaders have command of the state as well as the party, hard to distinguish.
