<p>What are the differences between these two schools? I keep reading more and more about Elon being highly selective with an average GPA above 3.8 but then I read about it as a suggestion for an average B student. That seems like conflicting information to me.</p>
<p>It seems like there are two issues about choosing a college - first being accepted but more importantly fitting in after you're accepted.</p>
<p>Any thoughts about these two schools are welcome.

<p>As you know, Elon is private and so more expensive than UNC-A. It's a beautiful campus; students seem very happy there; located in a small, small town (Elon). The town itself used to be called Elon College, but when the College changed to a University a few years ago, they dropped the "College" from the town name, so it's just Elon now. Very small-- nothing to do there--at all-- but the campus is beautiful. I would not say this is a "highly selective" school-- at all, but it has a good (and growing) reputation. For some reason, people in the NE and on CC seem to be very enamored with it. My guess is-- it's a good LAC that's relatively inexpensive for LAC's (relative to the NE, certainly). Not a difficult admit, though. Very strong in musical theatre, especially.</p>
<p>UNC-A is also a very nice campus, small, and located in the city of Asheville, which is a great city, beautiful location in the mountains, lots to do. Also not "highly selective" at all, but--again--students seem to love it. In fact, I know 2 kids who have just transferred, after their freshman year, from Elon to UNC-A, though not sure why. They probably just wanted to be in Asheville. I don't know what their relative strengths are, but I was up there back in the fall, giving a presentation. Very nice kids-- who put together this speaker series on their own, and got money for it-- and organized the whole thing-- so they were interested, organized, and very appreciative. I think the campus has just undergone (or in the middle of) extensive campus renovations. </p>
<p>Sorry I don't know much about all the academic offerings at either. While Elon's campus is really beautiful, you are stuck in Elon. Just a lot more going on in Asheville. You should try to visit both if you haven't already.</p>
