nearly four year bump … looking at BU and NYU (and one other) for final decision. How do they compare in the sciences (e.g., bio/neuro/physics) in terms of professors, research opportunities, etc.?

FWIW S2 is very pleased with BU physics which he chose over NYU and Brandeis

department is small in terms of # students and large in terms of # professors and research opps

Thanks OdysseyTiger. S is also looking at Pitt but more for neuro. I think NYU is now running a distant third behind BU and Pitt to my wife’s dismay (she’s from NY). I like the dept. ratio you posted; that’s what we’re seeking.

One very important minus point in NYU is lack of Engineering College. Kids who want to do engineering can not get degree certificate from NYU, It will be from NYU Poly which is ranked separately and very low around #139 .
BU has a good engineering college and their Biomedical Engineering is ranked in top 10.

Is there meaning behind the Pharma part of Pharmagal? If you are looking for research opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry or biotech, Boston is a great place to be. Don’t discount the opportunities at the many companies – most are just across the river near MIT. Also don’t forget BU has a med school, and undergrad students can find research or part time work there sometimes too. PLUS, there are all the hospitals. The Longwood area where Harvard Med School, Children’s Hospital Boston, Beth Israel Deaconess, and Brigham and Womens (plus other clinics, etc.) is not very far from BU at all.
