I want to compare Harker, a private day school, with some highly respected private boarding schools such as Cate, Thacher, and Stevenson

I want to know more about HYPMS admission rates for their graduates, and selectiveness in getting in. I also want to know their relative strength and weakness.

Also, I want to know if they are good at managing their students with drugs and sex.

I just completed the application process to Cate and Thacher and I was accepted to both. I am probably going to attend Thacher but I also love Cate! If you have any questions about the application process, PM me!

I think the issue of protecting a student’s safety is a little different at a day school than a boarding school. When kids go home at night and on the weekends, I’m not sure that a school can really control a student’s choices.

Harker students for the classes of 2007, 2008, and 2009 had the following acceptances:
Stanford 31
Harvard 18
Yale 10
Princeton 29
Caltech 28
MIT 25

Thanks for the info. How about those boarding schools? And how about “getting into harker” at high school level? What is the SSAT number you need? (sure it is only one factor…)

Harker is one of the best schools in the country. It’s a day school and if you live in Silicon Valley near the campus it would be an excellent option. The enrollment at Harker’s upper school is roughly 3 times bigger than either Cate or Thacher, and 50% larger than Stevenson. Culturally the schools are all distinctly different, so it will be difficult to accurately compare them on a piece of paper. Cate and Thacher have a large percentage of boarding students (85-90%) and are well known for having diverse yet close-knit communities. I would suggest that you carefully read each school’s website and then try to schedule campus visits so you can meet their students and faculty.

I have a son at Cate and am pleased with the school.

In terms of diversity ,Harker is mainly asain, with a large Indian percentage and then Chinese. The rest is mainly white, but there are a few Hispanics and mixed

Most schools try to manage their students with good advice and role modeling, but I’m sure some kids would prefer to be managed with drugs and sex. ;)
