compared to f&m, dickinson, and muhlenberg

how would you rank gettysburg in comparison with f&m, dickinson, and muhlenberg?

dickinson

f&m

gettysburg

muhlenberg

These schools are not that much alike. Rank is not everything. Sure, they are in the same neck of the woods, so to speak, and all LACs, all in a range of the USNews&WorldReport rankings...but they are different and would appeal to different students. My list wouldn't be someone else's. If you visit the campuses, you will get a sense of whether or not you "fit." That's the way to approach this, I think...but of course, rankings are fun. Since this is the Gettysburg thread;
1. Gettysburg
2. The others

:D Babar--I couldn't agree with you more, but then again, I'm biased!

To the OP: please give us a little more info, i.e. what is your intended major, what do you want in a college, what are your interests, have you been accepted yet, what is your financial situation like (i.e. scholarships offered, FA packages) etc. Your stats (GPA, test scores) might be helpful, also.

I doubt anybody on this forum could really "rank" these schools; they are similar in some ways yet dissimilar in others.

okay. i want to major in english or history (a little vague -- anything BUT science or math basically). i've been accepted to gettysburg, dickinson, muhlenberg, and f&m (a few other places as well, but my mom's sick so i want to stay in PA). fortunately, money is really not an issue so financial aid (or lack thereof) isn't a big deal.

GPA: 4.43 (weighted obviously)

Class Rank: #2 or #3 (fingers crossed for salutatorian)

SAT:
W - 760
R - 800
M - 710

SAT IIs:
Lit - 730
US Hist - 700
Spanish - 780

i'm bilingual in spanish and english -- my mom's from spain, but i was born in America. so i'm looking for diversity on campus. i'm also looking for writing outlets (newspaper, lit journal, writing house, etc.). i don't really care much about location -- urban or rural -- as long as the campus isn't a huge eyesore. i don't think i'm going to swim or play field hockey in college, but i really like sports. the ideal college would have a nice athletic center and decent intramural and club sports.

thanks for all the help! i really appreciate it.

Here's my 2 cents worth: Gettysburg has a very strong English dept - and history dept - strong faculty and of course the place itself is historical, so that is a big plus. The campus is beautiful (not an eyesore). The school is increasingly diverse but still far from as diverse as the administration would like. There is a plan for a new athletic center but ground has not yet been broken.
These schools are close to each other - can you attend accepted students' events? Truly all answer some of your requirements, but I am not sure any answer all of them. I believe that you can create a strong presence on any of these campuses with your obviously strong qualifications. Good luck!

I agree with Babar, plus I'll throw in Gettysburg's Civil War Institute for the history buff in you.

The Gettysburgian doesn't stink as newspapers go and I'm kinda enjoying the Gburg Forum http://www.gburgforum.com/.

The Gettysburg Review isn't exactly too shabby either.

You definately need to go and experience each campus and decide which one feels the most comfortable to you. Are you going to Get Acquainted Day on April 21? We're hoping we can track down Dr. Ryan in the English Dept.--he's their writing and Journalism guy.

Of the four I think Gettysburg excells the most in varsity sports. I can't say much about intramurals now but we had a blast playing coed flag football 30 years ago...
