Do top i-banks in NYC recognize Cooper Union just as much as Columbia? I heard from some people that the Cooper Union has a slightly better rep. than Columbia inside The City. But does this recognition apply to top i-banking companies as well?

i don't understand how people can legitimately try to compare the cooper union to columbia. its no contest to the point of absurdity. I've lived in New York my whole life and i associate the cooper union with the peculiar emo kids creeping around st. marks place.

GT2 you have no clue as to what your talking about. Cooper offers only a total of 6 majors and each of these majors are ranked among the elite programs in the country. It's art and architecture programs are world famous. Of course, it doesn't have a campus like Columbia and Columbia's academic classes are much greater in diversity thereby providing a better, academic experience. Comparing Cooper w/ Columbia is like comparing Swarthmore with U.Penn or comparing Harvey Mudd with UCLA. In the end, Columbia is a better university (due to the overall academic exp.) but when comparing the few majors that Cooper offers with the same ones in Columbia; I would certainly call it a "legit" comparison.

I don't see why would the cooper union have an investment banking reputation... its an engineering school? Columbia is one of the biggest holders of real estate in the city, its a major research university with a multi-billion dollar endowment, a tremendous alumni network, a fantastic business school, and it has an ivy league reputation. To be honest, I don't know anyone, ever, who went to the cooper union and works on wall street.

in terms of ibanking prospects....i think columbia is on a completely different level than cooper union....columbia is on par/competitive with harvard, yale, penn, etc....cooper union is not on that level

If you look on the business majors board, you will find a thread that lists where some of the major banks recruit from. Most/Everyone recruits at columbia, only citigroup recruits at cooper union.

Coming from the New York area, I know no one who says cooper union has a better reputation than columbia for prestige/i bank recruitment.

^^ Isn't Citigroup's i-banking sector one of the most powerful i-banking companies and on par with top i-banking companies like Goldman..., Morgan Stanley, Deutsch bank, etc..?

my point was that while Columbia was on everyone's list, Cooper Union was only on citigroup's list.

No school will land you a job but a school like Columbia or NYU will get you more interviews and more oppurtunities.

just to be clear though, I am not in any way belittling Cooper Union in any way. It's a great school and any graduate will have great oppurtunities coming out of school
