Does anyone know any resources/exams that have a ‘comparing passages’ section on the ACT Reading? I took the June 2015 ACT and I noticed that they added a ‘comparing passages’ section for the Social Sciences passage.
The unfamiliarity of the content despite preparation slightly shocked me. I was hoping to become familiar with it through some practice, but can’t seem to find any of it (even on Princeton Review 2015, Barrons, Real ACT, or even Kaplan).
I did read somewhere that this passage in the Reading section was added starting 2014 to balance out with common core standards or some jibber.
Anyone?
@KbbGrizzly On the ACT website, you can find sample questions that include these changes. Also, ACT released a practice test (2015-2016) with the test updates, so you refer to that as well.

@blink24 Thanks! This helps a lot
This is the strategy I teach my students:
- Read passage 1; answer questions related to passage one (you may have to skip around)
- Read passage 2; answer questions related to passage two
- Answer questions related to the comparison of both passages
I think double passages are easier than single passages because the test makers pick easier passages. The problem is reading both passages and keeping them straight. Tackle the more difficult questions- those about both passages- last.
Prepare for this question: What would the author of passage 1 probably say about X in passage 2? That is almost always a question answer to the question.
@HereToHelpYou Thanks for the detailed directions! I’ll practice with that method
You are welcome! Good luck!
Your’re welcome @KbbGrizzly! Nice tips @HereToHelpYou .
