Competition! Number of Applications

One of my friends has somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 (a few under, I think)...I have eight. You people are crazy o_O

As an international student, I have no choice to apply to so many

Yeah, I agree with Def. An intels we don't have state schools/reduced fees as a back up in the US. And yeah, we can apply to our national universities, but the culture (at least for me) is one reason we're applyin' to the US. And the idea of an liberal arts system in college/uni. :S

5

1 - Super Duper Reach - Fantasy School
1 - Super Reach
1 - Match/Tiny Reach
1 - Match/Tiny Reach
1 - Match

No 'real' safeties!

me 15....two of my seniors went for 30 and 35.....the 35 one got rejected/wait listed by all!!! SHOCKED.......BEAT THAT!!!!

DS applied to 8
1 EA (already in), 1 Ivy reach, 2 Canadian, 4 other US schools - already in at 1 (safety) for 2 acceptances so far

How'd they find out from 35 schools already?

6

2 big reaches (georgetown, notre dame)
1 reachish fit (william and mary)
2 safetyish fits (smcm, jmu)
1 safety (marymount)

SwatTeam, I think ntek meant seniors as in...last year's seniors...HIS/HER senior, meaning older...

I can't imagine applying to 20+ schools

I applied to 10 schools and between sending scores, app fees and CSS profile fees i've (or should i say my parents, lol) have spent almost $700

No I dont expect you to understand that... you are not an international, who really wants to go to an US college, while competition is fierce

yeah i mean seniors as in those who applied last year!!

Imagine applying to 20 schools! Your guidance couselors must hate you with a passion after filling out all those forms, not to mention your teacher recs. and all the essays you have to write! You could probably re-use some, but not all. An so much money on application fees. Whoever did that, do you really see yourself at everyone of those 20 schools?

I applied to 7

2 safeties (1 really safe (got in already - state school rolling, 1 pretty safe)
2 matches (I already got into one EA)
3 reaches (but I already got into one EA - gtown!)

1 school. nowhere else, no safety, nada. :)

Well, to expound on my 5 schools:
2 safeties: UConn, Northeastern (both accepted EA)
1 match: BC (accepted EA)
2 super-duper-uber reaches (ie. fantasy schools): Yale, Harvard

I think applying to too many looks bad.

I say 5-10 is plenty

um around 9, 5 out of state, 4 in state (three full scholarship safeties)

hm. i was originally going to apply to 15, during the summer. it got cut to 11, then to 9, and then i got lazy and only applied to 8. i now kinda wish i had applied to 3.

i can't top any of ur friends, my most application crazy friend applied to 12 US and 6 UK

11
i had to apply to a lot just because there's a lot of money that is involved in this decision. if i get into certain schools some committee is willing to give me four years scholarship so...
