Competitions, Awards, or Activities for Building a Reputation

Hi Everybody,

I was wondering if anyone could suggest some competitions, awards, and/or activities for a rising 8th grader to participate in. Thanks!

Well there is no magic combination of awards/ activities that will help you get into a school. Just do what you enjoy and you should be fine.

Thanks! That sounds reasonable. It’s just I’m looking for something that would show the high school I am applying to how passionate I am about Science and Math.

Qualify for AIME in 8th grade could help for math and science but it might cone too late for consideration. (Usually end of February.) Perfect score on AMC8 in November would help as well. Best of luck!

Wow! Thanks! Just the kind of thing I was looking for!

Keep in mind that the things @Studious99 mentioned are extremely competitive awards and achievements to attain. To be honest, you don’t need a lot of awards or a “reputation” to get into competitive schools: the vast majority of applicants don’t have these things. I’ve personally never won an award in my life and got into some “competitive” schools, so just keep that in mind.

But keep in mind also that I know very little about the school that you’re applying to, so take everything with a large grain of salt.

Thanks!Congrats! Do you mind me asking what kind of competitive schools are you referring to? I realized that I don’t have as much on my application as I would like, so I went out searching for things to add. I know, dumb idea -_-.
