prestigious competitions?

anything that i should think about competing? i just want a few suggestions. anything related to business, math, etc. but NOOOO science! LOL

Well, I was going to say State/Presidential Scholars competitions - which are very prestigious, but you have to be really good at science in addition to math.

AMCs! They lead to the IMO (international math olympiad).
Of course if you do badly, it might kill your self-esteem for life.

how'd you do on the AIME today fizix?

Not this again... If it's really prestigious, than unless you are a genius, you probably won't win. If an ordinary Joe can win, it can't be that prestigious.

Keep in mind that winning one of these "prestigious" competitions can be very challenging and even preparing for one can take up many hours/days/weeks that could have gone into doing something else. But hey, its your call, and you never know what genius you can cone up with.

After seeing what my classmates got for all the problems I'm hoping for a 2. :(

these AMCs and AIME, do u have to get recommended or can u just apply urself?

I'm sorry to hear that fizix :( Didn't you do extremely well last year? I think this year's test was harder than last year and I think my score's probably a 2 as well sigh goodness >>;

The AMCs are open to anyone as long as a school has signed up to take it (ask your math teacher about it). To qualify for the AIME, you need to score at least a 120 on the AMC10 or 100 on the AMC12. However, if not enough people can score that high, the top 1% of AMC10 and top 5% of AMC12 takers will qualify for the AIME.

Yeah, my score decreased by about five points.
(It's because I made like four stupid mistakes...like thinking 10^6 was equal to 100000.)
But I still wish we could take the AIME every day :D

Solutions are up on AMC website...I got a 2 and I'm pretty happy, considering I got 100.5 on the 12B

If there's an FBLA/DECA at your school, become a member and see if you can compete in their events! They're all business-related.
