Although the 2019 RSI application is still 8 months away, I noticed that most science competition thats help students get into RSI (USAChO, USABO, SIEMENS, ISEF) were either in the spring semester and after the application due date or cancelled. Therefore, I was wondering what I could do to help my chances of getting into RSI before the next application.

this would be really helpful to find out about. I have the same question. I’ve done a lot of research but only now am I getting the opportunity to present it substantially. I would love to do some competitions before the RSI application is due.

Looking for competitions to add to the list doesn’t help as much as you’d think, not to mention that there are very few that run before January. They’re generally looking for major awards or other evidence that you have a passion for STEM (depth over breadth). That being said, not having a major award is not a deal breaker whatsoever, if you can show you’re really interested in research in some other way (i.e. essays) that helps a lot too.
I agree with @OleColtrane Awards are kinda hard to instantaneously prepare for and it’s kinda late if you are trying to add them last minute. As mentioned above, you need to show that you have a passion for STEM and that you have some type of competency (internship, research, competitions, science fairs, etc)
