Sorry, it's crazy early I know, but...yeah...I just started doing some serious research but I won't have enough time to enter westinghouse, and ISEF is after app deadline. Does it look bad not have competed in any science fairs? I plan to work really hard for a long time on the project, so is it ok if I just send them a really good project that hasn't won anything? Thanks!

Buuummmppppp
Please
RSI sounds so awesome

How will you not be done? I think there is still some good time left. Also, if you research is serious, then send them your abstract and your results.

The deadline for Siemens Westinghouse is October 3, but they recommend sending the project at least 10 days before. I just started researching my idea this week, so I doubt I can do everything in 3 weeks.

Well...you could do INtel ISEF.

I think ISEF is after the app deadline, so I can't really tell them anything. Oh yeah, one other question: the AMC 12 A is Jan. 31, so can I submit my score (if it's good, of course) after I apply? Thanks :)

Corina,
I sent my westinghouse project 1 day before the deadline last year and everything worked out, so you really have one more week than that. But in any case, send RSI what you have when you apply. And isn't the RSI submission date Feb. 1? If so, then you should definitely be able to send it - you can either mail it on the last possible day or send the app early with a note saying you will notify them of your AMC A score later. However, only do this if its significant (last year I jumped from a 105.5 soph year to a 123 junior year, and still didn't send).

Hey, zogoto. Did you send your sophomore scores (amc and aime)? If you didn't, then you didn't send any amc scores at all? So it doesn't really make a difference...?

Yeah I sent my sophomore scores, which were weak (AMC 105.5, AIME 2). The most important part of the application is NOT the scores (although outstanding scores or awards do help). More important is question #2.

lol, I haven't even thought about the application questions. Question #1 looks pretty important, too.

hey man
dont worry too much about it
i didnt do any science fairs and i got in
really i think they want to see that you think about science, not that youre good at winning awards, though those certainly validate thinking
i wrote a stellar answer to question 2 and i think that was a huge factor, its probably the most important part of the app

Yeah, Matt McGann said he puts the most weight on Question #2. You should probably work really hard on it.
