University of Rochester

Rice University
Boston University

And I have a question. Do I need to take physics to apply for the accelerated med programs? I only need to choose two sciences, and I am not planning to take physics.
Plus, would it hurt that I took IB Music as an elective?

I am very nervous... so please convince me that you are giving me the right advice...!

And im also applying for the Rutgers one

you do not need physics for the accelerated med programs- they would prefer it, but if everything else stands out, they won't mind.
your sat writing is a bit low, along with your SAT II's in bio and chem- but they are balanced out by your numerous 800's.
You also have a lot of diverse activities which is good, as well as leadership and awards.
I would say you have a decent chance at all the programs. My only advice is to make sure to show interest in the college, not just the program.

A lot of these programs very heavily stress the SAT chem score, and your score in that subject test isn't exactly stellar. Nonetheless, your other stats and ECs are pretty great, so if you write good essays and do show interest in the colleges as the poster before me said, you could have a chance at a couple.

Thanx so much to both of you :) and i wonder, do they put much more emphasis on the academics than the ECs?

The programs at Rice and Brown are not accelerated. Four years undergrad, plus four years med school. Some of the others that are "accelerated" require summer attendance, so you really spend the same amount of time in school as in the eight year programs.

Your SAT general stats are excellent and you have a pretty good chance at all of the above except Rochester.
Your medical ECs are somewhat weak but hopefully your stats will overcome that point.

Rochester being heavy in Research, it's very very tough for anyone who has not shown 1-2 yrs of research prior to applying. Your chances at Brown are probably better. Brown likes to see non medically related ECs which appear to be where your key focus is.

I would expand your number of schools though. Add UMDNJ/Rutgers or UMDNJ/TCNJ.

I say that because most BS/MD programs generally have higher % of applicats accepted within their state and fewer OOS which makes it tougher on OOS'ers for ANY program

Aww thank you so much! I really would like to go to Rochester, but I guess it's tough for me. I don't live in an area with lots of opportunities for research. Thank you so much!
