<p>Recently at my school, many underclassmen have been going overboard with Honors/AP classes. Freshman are even asking if there are any AP classes that they could take. For AP classes, their are entrance exams and many people cannot pass them and waiver into those classes in which they fail in. I, for one, am glad to be graduating because before I thought my class was competitive, but when sophomores are taking 2 AP classes and Juniors are taking 4 AP classes --> too competitive.</p>
<p>I dunno the idea of Sophomores taking and Juniors taking 4 isn't hyper competitive for our school. Like I took 1 freshman year, 3 last year, and I'll take 6 or 7 this year.</p>
<p>Our curriculum's pretty much outlined for us before we enter high school. Though people do try to raise their GPA by going overboard on dual enrollment classes and AP electives.</p>
<p>Most people at my school can hardly do the bare minimum to graduate.
Tons of people drop out before they even reach 12th grade.
And unfortunately, each year it keeps getting worse and worse.</p>
<p>For example, I know of at least 5 people that were suppose to graduate when I was in 10th grade. I'm now in 12th.... and so are they. xD I'm sure theres plenty more in the same situation as them too.</p>
<p>I don't really want a more "competitive" environment, but I am looking forward to being able to have a somewhat intelligent conversation with people. </p>
<p>I have a lot of electives this year which are basically filled with regents kids, when the teachers made us go around to introduce ourselves and do those stupid things I could hardly about half of them. I've heard 2nd graders speak at a better level than some of those people. 0_o</p>
<p>our school's classes are pretty close, i think people understand that those in higher positions deserve to be there and if they worked harder they could too. there's no outright "i'll take more AP's than you" or "i'll work extra hard to beat your grade," there's only people trying their best. though when it ocmes to colleges and ranks im srue people wish they were higher.</p>
<p>Our school is pretty new -- 07' is the first class that was with our school all four years. I don't know about freshmen but sophomores usually take no APs but those that are college-bound usually take one AP (Bio or Chem). I know only one other sophomore who's taking three APs.
Competitive juniors usually take two or three APs, some do four and I have no clue about seniors.</p>
<p>I, for myself, do take four APs in 10th grade but that's exception and I thank God for that because it was true miracle. For example, who knew that Pre-calc would be filled out so I was able to take AP Calc. Or, who'd knew that I need to change to another academy before 9th grade, to see Frosh Science overfilled for first semester (block schedule), take Pre-AP Bio, then get into Chemistry next semester to be eligible for AP Chemistry.
Also, I was basically on border of skipping non-required for 9th graders testing because I didn't know it was important but it helped me to get into Junior's APUSH/AP Lang during 10th grade later.</p>
<p>My school is somewhat competitive but not as much as other schools. We are not competitive in such a way that we fight who has the better grade, instead we help each other improve our grades. I recently found out that there are maybe 5 AP's offered at my school but barely anyone takes them. I am going to do AP English Literature and AP English Composition simply because I love English and though they are difficult courses I will enjoy them more than AP Calculus. I am also thinking of AP Biology. Nobody wants to take them because A. They are really hard courses and B. You have to pay $100 bucks so yeah.</p>
<p>I thought my school was uncompetitive, but recently I've realized that my class (class of 2009) is quite competitive. Many college-bound sophomores are already taking one AP class. I myself am taking APUSH. My school as a whole, however, is not competitive.</p>
<p>Yar, my school in general is rather uncompetitive. Those who are competitive minority, though, are hella hardcore about what they do. Our school doesn't allow underclassmen to take APs (BOO!), but at junior year, people usually take 2-3 APs (sometimes 4), and senior year, 3-5 APs.</p>
