Complain About Your High School

^^^^^That sucks. My school’s mascot is the Raider too. We just use a pirate.

There’s really not that much to complain about my school.

Alright I absolutely HATE the school I’m going to. It’s pretty terrible. Well here goes.

You’re required to take 3 PE’s and a health.
-Why do I have to take so many of the same class? It’s completely pointless and the teachers take it way to seriously. You get graded on your mile time, pacers, etc. Basically you have to run the mile under 8 minutes to get an A. I think that’s ridiculous. PE should be graded on effort and not how much of a perfect athlete you are…

The lunch is disgusting and overpriced.
-Why should I pay $2.50 for one piece of soggy pizza and carrots? That’s ridiculous. At my old school the basic school lunch was only $1.75 and you got a decent lunch. The snack cart at my school is even worse. A pizza can run you $2.50 and $3.00 for a pepperoni. It’s so overpriced for crappy food.

NO HONORS CLASSES
-This school has no honors classes at all except for honors english 9/world history in 9th grade and honors english 10/world history in 10th grade. There is no honors science classes, math classes, etc. Basically when I transferred to this school I lost all of my weighted grades because the school I now go to honors nothing.

Barely any AP classes.
-I think there are maybe four AP classes and they are completely ridiculous. The teachers don’t train you enough for the AP exams so most of the students fail the test.

No school spirit
-I go to a DOD (military ran) school in Okinawa so of course our sports aren’t going to be that great just because students are constantly leaving and what not. Our football team isn’t the greatest (so I’ve heard) so this school lacks any type of spirit. I’m definitely going to try to make some changes to the school this upcoming school year.

Our vice principal is CRAZY!
-I mean she is literally crazy. She takes the dress code way to far. Yes I am all for banning girls from wearing super short shorts and guys not sagging but ripped jeans? Come on. I sometimes can’t even get away with Bermuda shorts because they’re too short (they touch my knee). She also changes up punishment depending on if she likes you or not. There are so many things about her but I don’t want to write an essay.

Too many elective requirements.
-For some reason we have to take almost 12 or so elective credits. It’s ridiculous. My old school focused on academics so there weren’t too many electives required but here it’s like they want you to be drowned in computer classes. I’ve so far taken about 3 computer classes and I still need more!

The people.
-Basically if you don’t drink you’re lame and no fun and if you do drink than you’re the man. All the girls sleep around with high school guys and then move onto the marines and all the guys are manwhores and jerks. I wish I was exaggerating but I’m not. There are only two high schools on the island so this is probably why the people are like that. Everyone is two faced and you go through best friends like old clothes.

The teachers.
-There are some pretty horrible teachers. It’s like they only became DOD teachers because of the benefits (which actually aren’t too bad). Most don’t care about what they teach and will either throw out A’s or F’s depending on their mood. It’s horrifying…

There is just so much more but I just don’t want to go into it.
Kubi sucks…

My school is in a district that has two high schools, the other high school in my district is named after the district because it was the first. So, the administration pays more attention to our competitor and neglects us. Our school won rewards last year nationally, yet the school decided to replace the marquee in front of our competitor’s school saying that the district is nationally recognized or whatever.

Oh yeah, that new marquee, $50,000. Yet we have teachers who are making copies on the back of old assignments because my school is under strict paper rationing. WTH!?!

REDNECKS. You think your school has them, I live in a top meth county of the nation. These kids either live on farms with confederate flags, or plastic-box houses that will fall apart in 10 years with confederate flags.

Continuing on with rednecks, we have no diversity. We have a very small Asian population, I could count the number of African American students with my fingers, and if you are different ■■■■. We have one openly gay kid in my class who gets constant gay bashing, plus even the students who come from well-off families are shunned. I should now, I constantly had my belongings taken or vandalized.

The amount of kids in Honors classes are 50/50 with non-Honors. Now, I only just completed freshman year, so it might change because of drop-outs, but a lot of kids are in the program when they shouldn’t. I mean, if you are getting below a D in more than two of your core classes, something needs to change.

Ranking. I wanted to bash my head in a wall last year. My best friend was 1, but I was ranked 9 (later 6) and because of this I constantly got comments about how my friend was beating me and how I’m not as good as them. In fact my best friend even told me that they were better than me…yeah…***.

We aren’t even supposed to have rankings! No, the administration decided that the class of 2012 on will go by the Latin Honors system. Yet, we still rank, plus I’m still being scrutinized. I guess this is because the system is still programmed to rank, but their whole purpose of recognizing others is flying out the window because of this elitism that goes on in MY group.

Teachers are so bias. I can’t complain, because I get special attention sometimes, but it’s wrong. I see it everyday and the way teachers handle themselves is not appropriate. Plus, a couple kids are best friends with the principal, to the point where special privileges are granted.

“Let’s focus on our crappy athletics because we want to be the stereotypical redneck school even though we have semi-decent academics that could easily be improved!!!”. Seriously, our football team sucks, there’s no hope so let’s shift our focus. Why should the jocks be honored when they aren’t half good?

Oh, the administration, well they are almost all related in some way. You are on the board if you’ve A)Slept with someone on the board, B)You have a family legacy, or C)You’re spouses. We have so many teachers who are married to each other.

Oh yeah, even thought it’s your life and your education, they will have say if you are allowed to even considering switching any of your classes.

Oh yeah, we have a ton of staff brats. Really, you’re not better than everyone else if your mom works in the school. By the way, those parties you hold every weekend, better watch out so mom doesn’t lose her job and get arrested for serving alcohol to minors.

No prestige. I heard that a student was accepted into Harvard years ago, but our school has only been around since 1997 so I don’t know the validity of that statement. I do know that when looking at the paper, you wont see one student accepted into a top 100 university. Nope, it’s state school highway from here!

No school spirit. We’re the type of school where everyone thinks they are all that and a can of applesauce, so don’t even think about dressing up for spirit day or showing enthusiasm to anyone besides the suckish football team.

I THINK I’M FINISHED?! MEBE?!

All girls school = ridiculous backstabbing/drama

Ungrateful students who want to do nothing for a whole class, even when their parents are paying high fees. Come on, at least let me learn something. Sighs at Spanish class

Teachers that simply get cranky because their life sucks. Not their fault that they have a cold and chose to come to work then decided it was a bad idea.

Students are actually ignorant. You’d think if your parents cared about your education, you’d be open-minded. But no, they mock minorities and don’t know a lot about the world around them. That really pains me.

The majority of teachers have major favorites. Their favorites are so disrespectful and disengaged in the class but can get away with it.

^We have so much drama at my all-girls school. Everything seems ok on the outside, but once you get under the surface there is too much drama to even try to follow it all.

^I think the drama is even worse at a school with an overzealous female population. We had so many cougar-ish incidents last year, it wasn’t even funny.

-Most of the business classes I wanted to take this year were cut because no one in my grade signed up for them. I’m also choosing between ap classes and interesting business/other electives every year.
-The College Prep classes are too easy and they don’t prepare students, they even lack summer work
-Half the teachers are terrible and they don’t teach well
-Gym+health every year
-My counselor has no idea what he’s doing
-People smoke in the bathrooms so they lock the doors to prevent it
-Handful of minorities, not diverse at all
-Language department is a complete joke. People in Spanish 5 H would be in Spanish 2 anywhere else.
-Cafeteria lunch tastes terrible

1) Too little diversity. 85% white, 10% Asian, 5% other.

2) Too many AP classes. Twenty-five classes… so many… and some of the classes have 15 people, tops

3) There was a glitch freshman year in my Health grade, and I got a B. I found out about it after you couldn’t change grades. GRR

4) Lazy, dumb freshmen in Spanish I

5) There are some seriously messed up homophobes in some of my classes. Jeez, I really hope you don’t kill your son if he is gay. It’s very disturbing.

6) “dats gay” or “■■■”

Too many is a better situation than too few.

I am happy with the state of my school right now. Lots of classes to choose from, very large school overall (2,300 students) that makes it so there’s a lot of people you can know. Most of the sports teams are very bad, but it’s mostly because of lack of admin support, who in turn put tons of emphasis on academics (not a bad thing at all). We have this cool looking glass bridge over a creek dividing the gyms, pool, and locker rooms from the rest of the school, and it’s a good looking school for the most part besides a ton of power lines going through the campus. Worst part about in now is that it’s landlocked and after it’s recent classroom addition, there’s really nowhere else to put anything else on to the school.

No reasonable AP’s. We have IB, and the school hates me.

I hate that too. It sucks when you go to open one door and it’s locked. Then you go around the corner and down the hallway and the other door won’t budge either.

-Overpriced lunch food.
-For the past 3 years, I’ve heard The football team will be #1 state next year. We win 3 games in a season if we’re lucky.
-The single French teacher sucks.
-There was a storm of teachers who became pregnant, so ****ty subs took over.
-Math department is VERY weak.
-AP Lang/Comp teacher sucks sooo much, plays favorites.

Reading this thread makes me feel better about my typical-suburban public school, and thus I only have minor irritations to report:

Long story short, certain groups of students

We don’t offer AP Psychology (they were going to, but then they had to lay off the only AP-certified teacher for it, so it’ll probably be introduced after I graduate)

Only six class periods, maximum of seven for freaks who want to go the school day from 6:30am to 3pm

They considered firing my (popular and competent) AP English teacher last year but have kept the same German teacher for over a decade because they can’t really find anyone to replace him. Not the school’s fault, but annoying nevertheless.

Clubs. Our National Honor Society is a joke (classmates of mine made up stuff for the prerequisites on their applications and got in) and doesn’t even meet that regularly. Class president elections, etc. is a popularity contest that only put-this-on-my-app people try out for (and you can tell by their utterly uninspired campaign speeches). Half of the clubs that are officially established meet up about twice a semester.

Our library carries the most mind-numbing selection of books.

Mailings; when the swine flu was a huge, hyped thing, every student received a seemingly urgent letter from the school that made it seem like everyone on campus would be affected and didn’t know how to wash their hands or stay home from school if they got the swine flu. Another time they introduced a cornily-worded ‘Sun Safe’ program encouraging students to wear sunscreen during school hours and buy visors from the student store, which no one did.

Assemblies vary by corniness but about 3/4s of them are pointless. I’ve skipped them all and the only one I regretted not attending was one where apparently they got teachers to dress up and do a Lady Gaga skit.

@NavyBlueNinja, I know. And the drama is just plain stupidity most the time.

@CasaAtreides, LOL cougar-ish? That rings a bell. We have a skinny jeans wearing art teacher who a lot of girls (and some staff) like. He wears funny red shoes and has skinny legs. The cougar part is because my friend had a crush on him but now he’s dating a guy two years her junior.

-overall mood of laziness and underachievement from student population
-English curriculum that pretty much lacks good writing instruction
-slightly insufficient math curriculum (in terms of what’s on College Board’s math tests)
-outdated and insufficient textbooks for Calculus AB and European History
-somewhat spoiled and na

my school was teh best. All the AP kids were the popular kids so it was a partay errday

^Go outside.
