All I know about SAT II's are that you have to take them. Can anyone kind of explain it to me?

Like.. how many are you supposed to take? Which ones look good? Is it like the SAT where you get to pick and choose which scores show up (for 2010's+)? How many show up? Which ones are worthless? And when should you take them? The year you're taking the class.. or?

And any general tips/advice/suggestions or additional information. Thanks!! I really appreciate it. :)

Most colleges require 2-3 SAT IIs. I took 3 just to be safe. I'm not sure if you get to pick and choose what shows up.

There aren't really any that are worthless, although don't take Math II AND Math I. Math II is the harder one thats based on precalc, but its graded much easier.

You should generally take them the year you're done taking the class. Exceptions: Math II should be taken after precalc and foreign languages should be taken as late as possible.

This thread might also help: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-subject-tests-preparation/503758-commonly-asked-questions-re-satii.html

Thanks.. yeah I checked that thread before posting, but it mostly had information for people who already were taking the SATII..

They're hour long, multiple choice tests in specific subject areas. Most good colleges require either 2 or 3 for admissions.

As far as I know, the SAT I policy applies to SAT II's. In terms of worthless ones, that depends on the school you want to attend. If you want to go to UCLA, Math I is worthless because the UC system doesn't accept it. It's best to take 3 subject tests and aim for 700+. I recommend math II, a history, and a science. That way, you have a good mix of subjects and fulfill the requirements for most schools.

Most colleges require 2, but Harvard (and maybe some others, can't remember) requires 3. It's often saves effort to take them after taking the AP class for that subject (they're usually easier than AP). Math II after precalc.

Actually, I don't think you get pick which SAT I scores you send, but many colleges say that they will only look at your highest ones for each portion.

As jamesford said, 1 science, 1 math, 1 social sciences/humanities would probably be good. (I took Math II, World History, and will take Physics).

People in some other thread said that if you're Chinese, getting an 800 on Chinese will not be impressive.

Well what about if you're taking an honors class that your schools doesn't offer in AP? Like right now i'm taking world history honors, but my school doesn't have ap world history. What if I do bad on it? Does it stay in my record? Cause I read somewhere that the last 6 scores on recorded.

So any math (except I), science, and social science/ humanities are good for upper level colleges? Or are there ones that look better?

Just take ones that are related to your intended major.
Just because you took Biology instead of Physics doesn't mean the college will reject you. And all your scores will show up, not just the last six.

What about if you want to enter as an undeclared major? And you're not sure what your intended major will be?
