Some SAT II questions

Hey, I'm new here to CollegeConfidential; my friend gthopeful93 said some good things about everyone here!

Anyways, I'm pretty unfamiliar with SAT IIs in general. I'm currently a junior in high school, and I'm planning on majoring in premed, chemistry, or something of the like. I'm planning on applying to Emory and UGA for sure, since they're in state. I may decide to apply to a few out of state schools, but I'm still contemplating on that.

I'm planning on taking three: Math II, Chemistry (since I'm finishing my AP Chemistry course this year), and one other subject. Browsing these forums, I've found some people say that colleges prefer a student who shows a larger breadth of knowledge, while others say that colleges prefer a student that specialize in a certain subject. Which one is true, or at least more common amongst colleges?

Also, how many exams should I take at once? I've read that three is the maximum, but I'm afraid I'll wear myself down by the second exam. Perhaps I should take a few practice tests and gauge how rigorous they are, but for the time being, how have your experiences been with taking multiple SAT IIs, and would you recommend me doing so?

Thanks a lot!

to be honest, i dont recommend taking all three tests in one day. perhaps, you can do two in one day, then one on the following one… its really up to you though. i also know people who took three tests in one sitting and still got amazing scores.

as far as the particular tests you should take, colleges dont really have preferences. obviously, if you want to major in premed, you might want to take a science-based SAT test. but its not really that important. dont stress about it unless you will be majoring in a selective engineering program, selective pre-med major, or a top school like Cal Tech or MIT. take the test where you will do the best…

Dave, whats up brah??? I concur with the above poster, do what feels right to you!

Thanks for the quick reply, neonseri. So colleges don’t really look at what tests you take; more just the score? Is retaking a SAT II common? I’m thinking about taking two this May and a third one the earliest I can next year (September, I believe?), and since I’m only going to be taking one then, I could retake one or take another one.

Haha, hey Ro (gthopeful93). Are you taking any SAT IIs?

I think I’ll do Math II for sure, but I’m not sure which others I will do.
