The University has totally redone the look and feel of the website
Oh wow, what is the difference I wonder?
Love the Fantastic Feats video under Why UChicago section.
@uocparent Second that: love the Fantastic Feat video.
But no mentioning of Carl Sagan, Gary Becker, Yang & Lee, Black/Scholes, Saul Bellow? I am aghast :))
I thought I saw Carl Sagan on the featured scrolling alumni area right in front, although right now, it’s showing Evan Sharp, cofounder of Pinterest. Yes, they should definitely include those luminaries.
How about Watson, Milikan, Miller & Urey?
Too many to name.
I am picking the ones that may be more famous outside of academic circle
I also like the Fantastic Feats video as well as the Core Overview. The P vs NP Problem on the Faculty header video was a nice touch. Should hit its mark with the intended audience well.
I find the new design to be confusing. But I usually know how to get the info. I need by going to the catalog or department websites anyway.
My quick take on it would be that the old site appealed more to parents and the new site will appeal more to applicants. Looking forward to exploring it in depth and seeing what they choose to emphasize.
Then there’s Dean Boyer biking through Cobb Gate in the main video area.
Oh is that who that was? LOL
I went and looked at the gif’s on each page again and is it just me or have they chosen the gif’s very deliberately?
Dean Boyer on cycle: Message: hey we are normal friendly types
Person Reading book : We are definitely academically rigorous and intellectual
Woman painting a dinosaur skull : We do things just for passion
Prof writing P =? NP. That’s the most well known unsolved problem in CS. They are definitely suggesting things are cooking in that department at the school
Woman advising students: Advising is strong here
Students playing on hammock looking very relaxed. Lol, This is definitely not a place where fun comes to die?
Students doing Yoga: We are not all work and no play and we are multicultural and diverse
Somebody worked really hard on this
Wondering if the College would be gratified to learn that the viewers of its new website have the same critical perspective and healthy dose of skepticism that the university professes to cherish in its academic endeavors.
Yoga inside Rockefeller Chapel??? I am not religious but isn’t that weird to do yoga at a place of worship?
@85bears46 - depends on the denomination :))
@JBStillFlying I guess after seeing the transformation of the former Chicago Theological Seminary into Becker Friedman Institute, I should not be surprised anymore.
No, I am not offended at all. I just find it an odd place to do yoga. Rockefeller Chapel is (to me anyway) always the place where solemn and big events are staged. This must be the manifestation of the newer and hipper U of C
I like the new website, I think it is more intuitive. They need to keep it fresh though as websites that look like newspapers with the same stuff all the time sends a message and not necessarily a good one.
Or maybe–this is a stretch–yoga is associated with eastern meditation and stillness, and the chapel is the west’s symbol of prayer and reflection, hence, the marrying of eastern and western schools of thought lol.
Or maybe it’s a marketing decision, people seem to like posting pictures of themselves doing yoga everywhere and what grander place to do that than in Rockefeller Chapel ;).
Speaking of newspapers, that gave me an idea. They should design the website like the newspapers in Harry Potter, with all the moving pictures and stuff.
