At my school there is insufficient interest in the CompSci course for their to be an actual class next year, but because I have kept pestering the guidance office, they have agreed to allow me to do an independent study. Essentially, it's halfway between an organized class and self-study. I would have a teacher/moderator who would monitor my progress and help me with issues, but I would not have the benefit of a daily class.

Has anyone else done something like this or have any advice? I'm a little nervous about it because most of the work will be on my own time, but I will work hard at it.

Well, I’m taking an AP CompSci course at my high school next year, and I know people have done well in it. The teacher doesn’t actually teach, it’s essentially almost entirely self-taught. She is only there for questions, which sounds a lot like the teacher/moderator position. Essentially it has a basic outline to follow, although you can go faster/slower as necessary.

So, if you would like I could send the basic outline that the teacher has set up, but yes, it’s entirely possible to self-study. If you’re motivated (which it sounds like you are) and have the time, then you’ll be fine.

My advice: Don’t worry about it!

Good luck!

Thanks very much, I am sufficiently reassured :)
