Can you compare and contrast computer engineering at MIT, Penn, Brown, Hopkins or Duke?

There is no disputing the fact that MIT is widely perceived to have the best computer engineering program out of the schools you’ve listed. However, at the undergraduate level, I would advise you to attend the school at which you feel most comfortable. Every university has its own intangible, abstract “aura”. Go to the one that makes you feel most at home because you will excel at your academic endeavors if you are truly happy at the school you choose to attend.

In order of strength of CE program:
- MIT
- Duke
- Penn
- Hopkins
- Brown

Does anyone know whether the focus of the programs are different or if one is better for industry but another for something else? I get the sense that MIT is an all engineering experience in the sense that the students will all be sTEM focused while those at the other schools will be more varied. But, I also don’t get the sense that MIT is as narrowly tech as RIT or RPI where people can major in plastics. Anyone able to weight in on that? Looking for broad engineering so that change is possible as fields change and outsource more.
