Being in Missouri it has always been go to Missouri Science and Technology for everything engineering but it that school just isnt the right one for me. The atmosphere doesnt seem right to me at all. Other than that there arent too many other schools to choose from with this degree. With only the University of Missouri Kansas City and Missouri University offering this degree which one would be a better choice?

I suppose Mizzou is probably the better choice of those two. S&T really is the far better school for engineering though. I understand your distaste for Rolla though. I was there once to visit someone and I would be fine never going back.

Is it possible to look out of state? I don’t know where you live in Missouri, buy UIUC isn’t that far from St. Louis. Similarly, Wash U offers it I believe, though it is even more selective.

choose MS & T, it’s an outstanding engineering school with little to no distractions

The problem is, some people need a distraction or two. I sure do.

Didn’t Missouri S&T used to be Missouri at Rolla?

Missouri School of Mines –> University of Missouri - Rolla –> Missouri University of Science and Technology

Those are all three the same school.

Going to Wash U or UIUC would be nice but im positive i dont have the credentials to get into those schools. Any other out of state colleges that could be possible choices? I’m in St. Louis.

How far out of state are you willing to go? Do you have a radius in mind? And just for grins, do you mind posting your credentials or do you wish to keep those private. I only ask because it would make it easier to suggest realistic schools within range.

For example, if you wanted to branch out a little further, you could always try Purdue. They have easier admissions standards than UIUC without sacrificing any real quality.

The only bad thing about UIUC and Purdue are that there are so many stinkin’ Cubs fans.

Im pretty much a low A to B student with an ACT score of 25 and a GPA of 3.4, nothing to special. I really need to work on more extra curricular activities. As for distance are there any schools within the states that border Missouri?

Haha dealing with those Cub fans would be pretty bad

Yeah, I have to put up with the Cubs on a daily basis, as I am engaged to a Cubs fan. Yuck. Oh well, I will win her over eventually.

So now then, Missouri or states bordering Missouri… not Rolla-esque
Mizzou
Iowa State
Kansas State

That is all I can think of off the top of my head. Everything else that I can think of that isn’t insanely small like Rolla is either too far or has really tough admission standards. That is also certainly not an exhaustive list.

Honestly though, I suppose in your situation, it sounds like Mizzou would be the best choice, despite the fact that, as an Illini, I can’t stand Mizzou. haha

Mizzou is definitely on the top of my list right now, still checking out everything around here. Thanks for the help.

Cant wait for the Mizzou Illini game should be good.

All I have to say to that is Oskee-wow-wow! Also maybe out football wont be embarrassing this year. Not getting my hopes up though.

According to the US World News Rankings of 2010, you should go to Wash U. or Mizzou before S&T.

[Rankings - Project - Graduate Schools - Education - US News](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-engineering-schools/rankings/state+MO)

Mizzou 86

S&T 94

^Did you bother to read this thread at all first? This guy is a prospective undergrad. Why would he want graduate rankings?

For undergraduate, S&T is ranked 74 and Mizzou is ranked 78. This guy also said that Wash U was a little out of his league.

I can tell you right now that the engineers I have worked with from S&T have always been at least as good as the ones from Mizzou if not better.

My son just visited Mizou Eng, and they treated him like visiting royalty. I think Mizzou moved up for him from “just a safety school”, to a solid #2. The kids in the department, and the Prof we talked to were all very knowledgable and impressive, and obviously loved Mizzou. Mizzou also has a Freshman Interest Group Engineering dorm.

I also liked a previous posters Iowa State rec - that was my D’s #2 choice.

Good luck!
