Computer people help!!!...again

Ok I need your advice again. 2 laptops, need to decide on 1

Laptop 1

2nd Generation Intel Core i3-2310M processor 2.10 GHz
4GB Shared Single Channel DDR3 Memory
Intel HD Graphics/HD Graphics 3000
500GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive
Inspiron 15R
Price: 750

Laptop 2

Intel core i5 proccessor
Everything else is the same
Price: 850

Id be using the laptop for doing homework, listening to music, watching videos, facebook, web surfing... so which one of these suffices my needs?

Both would. But I would go with the first choice. Save the cash. Unless your running high end aps or gaming you wont noticed the dif in processor speed between the two.

EDIT:
Use the extra 100$ for a laptop accessories. i.e case/wireless mouse…etc

The only reason you would choose the more expensive laptop is if you really need the extra computing power. For your needs, you won’t notice a difference between the two, so just purchase laptop 1, it’s a smart choice.

The Intel Core i5 offers a significant performance upgrade from the i3, due to some differences in the technology. If you plan to keep this laptop for a while, the 2nd one might be the better choice. However, if you just wanna dump it in the trash after college, you can just buy the first. Whichever you buy will last you through college, no problem!

Thanks everyone!

Any other opinions?

Just personal opinion, I would go with the Dell inspiron 14R which has all the same specs as the 15R but the less size and weight is actually really nice.

Ummm, you kidding me? Id say get a much cheaper laptop like a $400 and save the cash for more important things. Youre only using the laptop for pretty basic stuff. Youre not running high end programs or gaming. You only need more power when, well, you actually need more power. My suggestion is get a good deal off newegg and spend around $400 for it.

I just bought an 6 GB RAM/ 640 GB hard drive, i5 sandybridge for $486 (after rebates) at Staples… Only draw back is that it’s an HP
