Hi, I was wondering if anyone could discuss with me the difference in the thought process of someone who does engineering vs someone that does computer science. I am not asking which is more difficult to grasp or anything, just how they are different in the ways that each major approaches creativity, problem solving, and analysis.
It think CS people see things through abstraction and engineering people see things through concretion.
I’d say approaches to things like creativity, problem solving, and analysis are determined more by the person than the major. All programmers and engineers are going to iterate between abstract thinking, concrete thinking and utter confusion. Persistence is absolutely required when you run into problems.
@coolweather It’s not logically sound to make generalizations like that.
@AgentXJP a general question gets a genera answer. What type of engineering is the OP inquiring about? And differences in “thought processes”? Relative to what?
An engineering discipline such as mechanical or civil.
@jym626 Just because his question is general doesn’t mean people should respond with logically unsound answers. They should inquire for more information.
Disagree with that logic. The question is obtuse, and the answer is reasonable. No matter.
And thought process as in concrete, abstract, how they are different in their approach to creating something and problem solving.
