Computer Science at Chicago?

How is Chicago in computer science? As far as I know its program isn't as good as those at Carnegie Mellon or Stanford (if I even get in there...), but I feel like the "life of the mind" at Chicago could make up for this with a better well-rounded education. Does it hurt the comp sci program at all that Chicago isn't an engineering school?

What I've heard is that Chicago CS, like most things UChicago, is very theoretical, so you probably won't be doing application based eecs anytime soon.

On the other hand, if you like theoretical computer science, the ties between that and the math department are fabulous.

We have a very strong AI department (our first intro to programming classes teach Scheme, not Java/C), so yes we have an incredibly theoretical cs dept. I asked my dad (who was in tech) to go through the computer science course list and tell me which courses were useful, and he couldn't find more than 1 or 2.

Read Zimmer's e-mail. I remember it talking about CS somewhere
