Does anyone know what the CompSci department/major at Wesleyan is like?

I don't know what the etiquette is regarding the revival of old threads, but I'd really like to know as well.

I'd also like to know... and is it ridiculous to think about a double major of compsci plus a nonscience like history or humanities?

This is one of those times that I hate to be honest, but the computer science department at Wes is not its best department. Don't get me wrong - there are some great professors and some great classes, and graduates go on to get great jobs. But still, it's not a computer engineering major; it's a liberal-arts computer science major. And while some of the professors are very good, some are... less so.

But, double majors with comp sci & nonsciences are easy; the comp sci major requirements are not overly strict.

Ps. the students in the compsci major are awesome, though! it's a great community.

Good to know... thanks so much madjoy for honest opinions.

Also, I think other advantages of Wesleyan make up for the weaker department offerings, even if you're fairly sure you want to do a comp sci major. It's not a bad department, just not a great one. Don't rule it out just because of this! When I was picking colleges, I almost didn't choose Wesleyan because we didn't offer Cognitive Science, which is what I was sure I wanted to study; now I'm a math and sociology double major, absolutely love it here, and am really glad I didn't write off Wes right away.
